Screening a Potential Surrogate or Intended Parent: Psychological Evaluations

Resist the urge to “go with your gut” and skip this part of the journey. Only a professional can truly assess whether someone is mentally ready to start a surrogacy journey.

A potential IP/surrogate might answer each other’s questions perfectly, yet not be ready for the mental challenges of surrogacy. Seeking a psychological evaluation should be a priority whether or not the parties are strangers or close friends.

Evaluations can be done online and consist of a personality assessment exam and a clinical interview. Each component takes about an hour to complete.

Requesting your potential IP or surrogate to undergo a psychological screening is also an opportunity to gauge their resolve and readiness to proceed with a journey.
