Terra has been a surrogate twice already and is beginning her third journey!

Q: Tell us about yourself! How many surrogacy journeys have you done?

A: I am from Wisconsin, I have one son of my own and I have done two journeys. I am currently matched for my third journey.

Q: What made you decide to do surrogacy independently vs with an agency?

A: I went the independent route because of the lack of support I felt with the agency I was with. I did a lot on my own during my two journeys so I knew I could save my future intended parents if I went independently.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a surrogate?

A: There are so many thing, I truly love the entire process of surrogacy from matching, psych evaluations and even shots. The best part, seeing your intended parents with their long awaited baby. Nothing will ever beat those moments of me seeing my intended mother holding her two babies for the first time. The look on her face and how she told me, “Thank you so much” and kissed my forehead. I know this is my calling, to help those who want to have a family and need a little extra help.

Q: We've noticed that you talk a lot about the support you receive from your husband during your surrogacy journey(s). Tell us a bit about that!

A: My husband is my biggest support person, he has never once questioned me when I brought up surrogacy. He consistently tells me how amazed he is of me and he has given me every single one of my PIO shots, he’s done a phenomenal job! He is most definitely hands on with the whole journey!

Q: Do you have a close relationship with your IPs & surro baby/babies?

A: It is not as close as I had hoped it would be, but that’s completely fine. I let them send me any updates instead of ever initiating, whatever they are comfortable with!

Q: What is one piece of advice you'd give to anyone interested in becoming a surrogate?

A: Patience is a virtue, there is so much hurry up and wait but the wait is so worth it on our ends. Do not match just because you’re anxiously waiting to start your journey, you will know when the match is perfect for you!

Q: What is something you wish you knew before becoming a surrogate?

A: For me, the discussion about prior c-sections has definitely played a part in my journey and has caused me a lot of heartache. I wish I had known that having c-sections would have caused some fertility clinics to deny me as a surrogate, I would have advocated for myself more.
