In my experience these are two different things. Here’s the best explanations I can give from my experience 🙂
Mock cycle: you go through all of the same protocol you would use for a transfer cycle. This could be different forms of estrogen and what not as well as progesterone (usually PIO) to get ready for a mock transfer. One common reason people do a mock cycle is so they can conduct an ERA. This is where they take a small biopsy of the uterine lining at the time you would be doing a transfer in a mock cycle to see if your uterine lining is ‘receptive’. If it’s receptive that means that you had the correct number of hours of PIO for a transfer to have the best luck of implanting. If it’s not receptive, that means you might need more or less hours of PIO for your best chances of implantation. An ERA will tell you exactly how many more/less hours you need.
Hysteroscopy: a hysteroscopy is typically performed between day 5 to day 12 of your cycle. This is to check the uterine cavity for any abnormalities (scarring, fibroids, polyps, etc). Some diagnostic hysteroscopies can be done in office just to check and make sure everything looks good in there 🙂 Most operative hysteroscopies will be done under anesthesia and usually have very minimal recovery (I’ve had many and walk right out of the building and move on with my day)! If there’s not too much to report from a hysteroscopy, many doctors suggest moving forward with a transfer as soon as your next period.
I hope this helps!
