D & S
A LITTLE ABOUT US
We were actually set up by mutual friends. Although we had probably been in the same places hundreds of times over the years, we had somehow never met. Our first introduction was definitely a little unplanned. The couple who set us up had not quite gotten their plans straight, and the husband invited D to dinner at a local Mexican restaurant to meet S, who was very much not expecting to meet anyone that night!
Thankfully, it turned into a fun dinner with a big group of friends, and we all had a great time. In fact, the couple who introduced us had one too many margaritas and ended up heading home early, leaving us to get to know each other on our own. From there, our relationship grew very quickly, and we were engaged less than a year later.
HOW WE SPEND OUR TIME
Outside of our journey to parenthood, we really enjoy spending time together and making the most of life’s everyday moments. A big part of our lives is our two dogs, Asher, our miniature poodle, and Walter, our black Labrador. They keep us busy and bring so much fun and personality to our home!
We also love playing golf, going to concerts, and most of all, spending time with our family and friends. We are happiest when we are together with the people we love, whether that means taking a trip somewhere new, enjoying a round of golf, going to a concert, or simply getting together for dinner and catching up. We feel very fortunate to have a close circle of family and friends and really value the time we get to spend with them.
WHAT LED US TO SURROGACY
As we built our life together, becoming parents was always something we hoped would be part of our future. However, just before our first wedding anniversary, S experienced a major medical event, a brain bleed that required both surgery and radiation therapy. It was a life-changing experience for both of us and gave us a very different perspective on our future and what is most important to us.
As we began thinking seriously about having children, we learned that because of S’s medical history, any pregnancy would be considered extremely high risk for both her and our future baby. After a lot of thought and many conversations together, we made the decision as a couple that we did not want to take that risk. While pregnancy may not be the path that is right for us, becoming parents is something we both deeply want. That is what ultimately led us to surrogacy.
OUR HOPES AND DREAMS FOR OUR FUTURE CHILD
More than anything, we hope our future child is healthy, happy, and knows from the beginning how deeply loved they are. It may sound a little corny, but there is a Dr. Seuss quote that D absolutely loves and feels really captures how we think about raising a child: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
We love the idea behind those words: that our child will have the freedom to discover who they are and choose their own path in life. We want to create a home where they feel safe, supported, and encouraged to dream big, try new things, and become whatever they want to be. Because of that, we don’t have a specific path or set of expectations for who our child should become. We simply want to give them every opportunity to explore their interests, follow their passions, and know that we will be there cheering them on every step of the way.
OUR FAMILY AND ENVIRONMENT
We hope to create a home that feels warm, loving, and full of laughter, a place where our child always feels safe being exactly who they are. Family is incredibly important to both of us, and we want our home to be one where spending time together, making memories, and enjoying the people we love is a priority.
What matters most to us is that we love, respect, and have patience with one another. We know that life will have its challenging moments, and we want our child to grow up seeing that you can disagree, make mistakes, and still treat each other with kindness and understanding. We want them to know that they will always have a place where they are supported, encouraged, and loved unconditionally.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN A MATCH
We hope to have a close, positive, and genuine relationship with our surrogate throughout the journey. We would love to be as involved as she is comfortable with and to share in the experience as much as possible. We would be excited to hear about how she is feeling, celebrate milestones together, attend appointments when appropriate, and simply stay connected throughout the pregnancy.
Our hope is that we find someone who also enjoys having us involved and who wants to share some of the experience with us, because we would genuinely love that connection.
